"Why can’t nation states be disrupted or rapidly improved? Because the mechanisms in place don’t allow sufficient A/B testing (ignore tiered governments at the state and city level, which technically count, but are still far too slow). Only one government can be in place at a time." (https://1729.com/voluntary-governments)
I live in Brazil and I feel that A/B testing will start to happen more. For example, our currency Brazilian Real depreciated a lot last year and many highly qualified workers started to do remote work for foreign companies. Instead of going to live in another country, they are staying in Brazil and earning in dollars. For Brazilian companies, now it is more difficult to compete for talents, such as developers. It is easier now to exporting "brains".
With the emergence of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), this reality will only get worse for these companies, but better for individuals. I believe local and national governments will compete for remote workers in the future as they compete for multinationals today. Currently, when a company decides to set up a factory in the country it brings wealth and generates employment. When a remote worker with a high salary starts to live in one place, he/she will bring wealth there, as he/she will spend part of it in the community. The battle for remote works and for being more crypto/digital friendly will enable more A/B testing in governments. The ones that do not succeed will provide worse living conditions for their citizens.
I believe geographical governments will still be relevant, but we will see the emerging power of crypto communities as we saw the emerging power of the multinationals last century.
Actually, I think this time the impact will be even greater. The difference is that besides providing jobs and wealth, crypto communities also offer the chance of participating in the governance (voting power with tokens) and also a common currency that facilitates exchanges. The more democratic structure incentivizes the sense of belonging. Participating in the decisions helps to create a common history that results in the identity of the community. Together with traditions and culture (included memes), this common identity strengthens community power.
Many of us will have our native country, but also our crypto community, where we work, contribute, vote and earn money.
Crypto communities and DAOs are the next steps of the globalization phenomena.
“These systems are caught in a jam, but new technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, and cryptocurrencies are providing powerful digital infrastructure with the potential to topple political structures. That potential comes from the ability to bypass the geographic world’s structure and test new systems in the networked world.” (https://1729.com/voluntary-governments)
Let's not underestimate the power of young generations that have been born within a digital and global mindset. Humans tend to underestimate the changes that happen in a decade.
